Before joining Sun Yat-Sen University, ShiNa worked as Senior Lecturer at University of Surrey, Reader at Leeds Beckett University, University Teacher at University of Nottingham in the UK. She has obtained her PhD from University of Nottingham, UK. Her current research interests lie in tourism economics, sustainable development, poverty reduction and tourism, tourist behavior, events studies, and using Electroencephalography (EEG) and electrodermal analysis (EDA) in tourism and hospitality research.

July 2012 - July 2013 The Economic Impact of Meetings Industry in the UK commissioned by Meeting Professionals International Foundation and funded by industry sponsors and government departments in the UK (Project Director: Prof. ShiNa Li; Meeting Professionals International (MPI) is the largest meeting and event industry association worldwide.)

Impacts of this project nationally and internationally: The results of this project have been well disseminated in the national and local press including BBC, the Times and about 100 pieces of different media coverage. The findings have been submitted to the British House of Lords. The media revealed that the UK Prime Minister has pledged support for the event industry because of its important economic contribution, i.e. £58.4bn to the UK economy. The cited figure was generated from this project.
